Trump Impeachment: A Closer Look
Impeachment is a hot-button issue with high engagement among Arizonans
PHOENIX (Nov. 14, 2019) – Arizona's registered Hispanic voters want to see Trump impeached, but the president's main base — white male voters — are sticking with him.
A majority of Arizona's Hispanic voters would like to see the president impeached and removed with 57% in favor, 37% against. Among non-Hispanic voters, only 39% favor impeachment and removal, and 49% are against.
"Hispanics make up nearly one-third of Arizona's total population and they are becoming more engaged at the ballot box," said Mike Noble, Chief of Research and Managing Partner of OH Predictive Insights.
When it comes to gender, the divides are less clear. A slim majority of male registered voters believe Trump should not be impeached — 51%. Women are evenly split at 44% for and 44% against impeachment.
There are also differences by age. By a 5-point margin, voters aged 54 and under believe Trump should be impeached and removed. By a 17-point margin, voters 55 and older think he should not be.
Maricopa County voters — nearly 6 out of every 10 Arizona votes — are particularly important for Trump's 2020 reelection. The county voted for Trump over Clinton by roughly 7 points in 2016, but now 46% of registered voters in Maricopa would like to see Trump impeached and removed, while only 42% would like him to stay in office.
Among regions, Maricopa County has the highest level of support for impeachment. In Pima County, 51% do not want Trump impeached vs. 41% who do. In the rest of Arizona, voters are against his impeachment by a 2-to-1 margin.
Many Arizonans are highly engaged in the impeachment issue: 43% have discussed it with someone, 39% have watched more TV news, and 30% have researched it online.
Methodology: Online opt-in panel survey, October 31 – November 8, 2019. Self-qualifying as registered Arizona voters. Sample size: 900 completed surveys, MoE ±3.27%.
