Coronavirus (COVID-19) Executive Summary and Topline Report
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — April 7th, 2020
PHOENIX (April 7th, 2020) – We asked 1,000 Arizonans from the general population about their opinion regarding the current Coronavirus pandemic. The survey was conducted March 26–31, 2020 (n=1,000, MoE ±3.1%).
Concern Perspectives
When asked about their concern of the coronavirus issue, 2 in 3 respondents say the situation will become worse in the next 30 days. The concern level split in generation, ethnicity and household income. Nearly 3 in 4 Boomers and Generation X believe the situation will become somewhat worse or even much worse in the next 30 days, while Millennials, non-whites and the lower-income groups are more optimistic than others.
The top 3 perspectives that Arizonans are most concerned about:

- Health perspective (79%)
- Public safety perspective (78%)
Behavioral Changes
Over 90 percent of Arizonans surveyed said they are avoiding public gatherings, avoiding restaurants, and are using hand sanitizer or washing their hands more often. 81 percent said they canceled their vacation travel due to the pandemic. While Boomers and whites say they avoid public gatherings most (95%), they canceled their vacation travel the least (78%). In contrast, Millennials and Generation Z are avoiding public gatherings the least (86%) but cancelled their vacation plans most (84%).
Government/Politician Confidence
National: The CDC has the highest confidence from Arizonans with 69% confident and 13% non-confident. President Trump has 41% confident and 45% non-confident. The U.S. Congress has 31% confident and 39% non-confident.
State: Arizona Department of Health Services (AZ-DHS) has the highest confidence with 57% confident and 15% non-confident. 44% of Arizonans have confidence in Governor Doug Ducey (net +18 points) and 38% in the Arizona State Legislature (net +8 points).
